Itinerary

DAY 1 – FRIDAY SYDNEY TO MUDGEE (L). Three and a half hours north west of Sydney, Mudgee is a picturesque drive via the Bells Line of Road through the Blue Mountains.  Departing from Sydney at approximately 9.00am our first destination is Mt Tomah and the Botanical Gardens.  These Gardens are the only botanic gardens in a World Heritage Listed area and here we will enjoy Devonshire Morning tea at the Potager Restaurant. Continue towards Mudgee we take time for a visit to Craft Works Distillery, nestled on the edge of the stunning valley. This is artisan craft in the true sense and we will enjoy a tasting of the full flavoured Whisky either in the Distillery or at the recently refurbished Royal Hotel.  Arrive into Mudgee and the fabulous Logan Winery where we enjoy Wine and Cheese followed by a regional Charcuterie Platter lunch. A visit to the Baker Williams Distillery to enjoy tastings of the superb handcrafted spirits and liqueurs is also a highlight of today.  He said ‘Lets build a distillery – She said ‘Lets make Butterscotch Schnapps’ the rest is history!  Arrive at our accommodation with the remainder of the afternoon free at leisure to explore the heritage streets.   Dinner tonight is at your leisure / own cost.  We can pre book a table at a local restaurant. Our accommodation for the next 2 nights is Perry Street, Mudgee’s favourite luxury boutique, apartment hotel. Housed in the historic 1862 Mechanics Institute, a building rich with history, there are 13 stunning suites styled with a distinctly modern, urban influence.  Being located a stone’s throw from premiere dining and shopping, as well as the major tourist attractions, makes Perry Street Hotel the ideal launch pad for discovering Mudgee.

DAY 2 – SATURDAY MUDGEE – The Saturday Long Lunch (BL). This morning we enjoy a leisurely start – you may want a very light breakfast as today is all about the long lunch!!!  Our destination today is Lowes Winery & The Zin House. Enjoy a pre-lunch wine tasting at Lowe Wines.  Founded in 2000 by David Lowe, Lowe Wines produces premium small batch wines from their certified organic and biodynamic property.  The winery philosophy is “we sell our wine to people who enjoy it. Full stop. All the time spent growing and making our wine would be meaningless if the glass in front of you did not impart joy.  We believe this experience should be a personal one, that is why the Lowe tasting room is positioned within view of the grapes, and only ten steps from the centre of production”. After our tasting, enjoy a short stroll across to the Zin House.  Zin’ is an abbreviation of Zinfandel – the grape variety Lowe Wines is most famous for and the vineyard Zin House overlooks.  The modern farmhouse restaurant takes in sweeping views of the property, nestled among classic Mudgee hillscapes and the vineyards of Lowe Wines. The extensive kitchen gardens, orchards and grazing farmland welcome you on arrival and form the basis of the experience at Zin House. The dining experience is also designed to reflect things held dear – taking time over good food and wine with those we care about.  The pace is relaxed, with time to wander the extensive food gardens, and the food and courses are plentiful. The matched wines, selected by David and Alexander Lowe, take things up another notch and will include those featured from Lowe’s museum stock.  After lunch concludes we can further explore the Farm Gate Trail or return to our accommodation.  The remainder of the evening free at leisure.

DAY 3 – SUNDAY MUDGEE – SYDNEY (BL). This morning departing from Mudgee we enjoy the scenic drive to Rylstone and our destination De Beaurepaire Winery.  From the first vine planting in 1998, this family’s single estate vineyard has grown into a renowned multi-generational boutique producer of French-style wines. On arrival we will be met by one of the owners, Richard or Amanda de Beaurepaire for an informative and enjoyable couple of hours getting under the skin of their award-winning French-style wines – there is no better way to experience the true De Beaurepaire Wines!  Meet the vignerons, explore the vineyard to see where their grapes grow and immerse yourself in the wines that are crafted here.   And for the curious, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions! After this wonderful wine tasting experience, we head into the picturesque town of Rylstone, a rare colonial treasure and one of the oldest villages west of the Great Dividing Range.  Here we will have lunch at the Globe Hotel, which has stood in the heart of the village since 1855.  After lunch, time to walk the main street before we depart and commence our return to Sydney via the Bells Line of Road.  Pause to appreciate the sweeping views over the Capertee Valley from Pearson’s Lookout.   Return to Sydney approximately 6.00pm.
