Lombok & the Gili Islands

Lombok is an attractive destination for people wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of Bali resorts. The island is steeped in rainforest with waterfalls. You’ll visit handicraft centres, enjoy panoramic landscapes of rice paddies and forest and spend a day exploring the Gili Islands, snorkeling in clear tropical waters.  

Gili Trawangan is the largest of the three islands and is around thirty minutes boat ride from Lombok. Regular fast boats depart daily. The beaches of the Gilis are powdery white, the water a beautiful clear blue and they are positioned perfectly for sunsets over Bali’s Mt Agung and sunrise over Lombok’s Mt Rinjani. Thirty years ago the Gili islands were uninhabited and only discovered by the seafaring Bugis people from Sulawesi.

Sample itinerary

Day 1: Met by your guide, you’ll be transferred to Kuta Lombok for check in at your hotel before dinner. 

Day 2: After a relaxing start to your day, you will be escorted to the beach of Kuta Lombok and an exploration of the east coast, sightseeing along the way. You’ll visit the Loyok Handicraft Centre, then head to Tetebatu for lunch before continuing north for your overnight stay at Pondok Senaru 

Day 3: After breakfast, you will enjoy a soft trekking experience and panoramic walk through the area of Mt. Rinjani National Park to the Sindang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls. Return to Pondok Senaru by through the rice fields and lunch back at your hotel, before driving to Lombok's northwest to Teluk Nare (a quieter departure point for tourists). Here, your private speedboat is ready to take you to the Gili Islands (15 mins) where you will stay. 

Day 4: Enjoy a relaxing day by the beach of Gili Island, sun bathing or snorkeling in tropical surroundings. Check out is at 12:00pm, when you meet your boat back to Teluk Nare and on to Senggigi through the coastline by car and lunch before a free afternoon at your leisure. 

There are many beautiful spots along the coastline from Teluk Nare to Senggigi and plenty of time to request a stop. Your guide and driver are there to help you. 

Day 5: After breakfast, check out of your hotel for a Mataram City Tour, visiting the local traditional market, Banyumulek Pottery Village and Narmada Park. After lunch, proceed to the airport or your next destination.
